Dari's Friday Flashback

Click here to participate in Flashback Friday

My dad got a job transfer in the summer of 1970, and we were in the process of moving from San Francisco to Orange County, CA. I was six years old, my sister was five, and our half brother, who lived with his mother and was going with us as part of his summer with dad, was nine.
It was during this move that my sister and I took our first trip on an airplane.
We stayed in a hotel called the Newporter Inn (in Newport Beach) for about 2 or 3 weeks while my parents looked for a house. We found the house in Costa Mesa and moved in in late June.
My mother sold that house thirty years to the month later after my dad passed away and moved to Oklahoma.

Batting .1000

and I'm not talking baseball.

It's just not my week for things to go right.

*Sigh*

Haven't gotten the promised info from Unemployment (they say it's because of my address); I got totally lost at Rose State today; and wired got crossed about getting together with someone over lunch.

And it's only Tuesday.

I'm ready to tear my hair out in frustration! I just want to get things done so I can go back to school, get a place to live (that's not with my mother), and get a job.

Then there's the money order that never got to its destination. Great. One more thing that's gone not right.

The only thing that's gone right for me is that I was able to re-register to vote.

Text message Travelog

(Sept. 30)
OKC, OK- home!

I-40 east, OK- Gettin' closer!

I-40 east, OK- 48 more miles to OKC!

I-40 east, TX- 250 miles to OKC?!

Amarillo, TX- figures. The bus going to OKC is late. And the gal who works here isn't very nice.

Amarillo, TX- layovers only an hour this time... Thank goodness! Not the 12 hrs it was last time.

Dalhart, TX- the bus has stopped @ McDonalds... and the last thing I want is MickeyD's! I want sleep!

Raton, NM- Man, i am so sore! I'm too friggin old to sit on a bus all day!

(Sept. 29)
Denver, CO- I went to Denver but it was closed-except the bus station which is a 24/7/365 thing.

Cheyenne, WY- This isn't the same place the bus stopped when I came up here. It's a bit nicer. I was hoping for a trip to Taco John's, but it's across the interstate from here. Drat!

Casper, WY- Hey, the bus station here is open this time!

Riverton, WY- Time to undertake another adventure on a GreyhoundBus. Going home to take stock and make plans.

It's all over but the leavin' on a jet plane

or in my case, the GreyhoundBus (bad words! ooooh!).

The apartment passed inpsection this afternoon, so I will be getting back half of September's rent (because I told the property manager that I was moving out on the day I "parted company" with the radio station).

Then after someone else rents the apartment, I'll get my security deposit back. That'll be nice... then I can go out and get an apartment in Midwest City... or a motel room. Just someplace I can have some privacy and do some thinking about my situation. What my next move will be, get a job, get info about going back to school... you know, stuff like that.

I need to have a heart to heart with someone about some things. So keep that datebook open, baby... I'll be a callin' ;)

So, this could be my last post until I get home.

That's kinda sad, considering the reason I came here to begin with. But stuff like that happens. I'll just nurse my bruises (from moving), take stock of some things, and push forward.

What other choice do I have?

The Post wherein Stef rants about vacuum cleaners, Space Bags, and being pressed for time

I finally got a hold of the neighbor I wanted to borrow the vacuum cleaner from. Apparently, if they don't see a car they recognise out in the drive, they don't answer their door.

So I get the vacuum and start sucking the air out of the Space Bags I bought to save space in my duffle bags. Guess what, kids, they aren't as great as they are hyped up to be.

The vacuuming went okay, but I had to return the machine when I was done. I was hoping to keep it until this morning so I could finish doing the living room.

Maybe Dale has one I can borrow. God knows he's let me borrow just about everything else!

The apartment is going to be inspected tomorrow afternoon around 2.

Still haven't sold the bed and nightstands. Had someone call this morning, but only to ask questions. When I asked if she wanted to buy it, she said she'd get back to me.

I'll take that as a "no".

I still have some stuff to take over to the thrift store, and I think I'll do that when I get out of the library.

It'll be nice to be on my own computer again. Can't wait to see all Jeff has done with it. I mentioned to him the other night that maybe he should go to school and learn more about computers, all I got was mumbling. Yes, the kid can fix just about every damn thing, but he's not making any money doing it!

Leave a comment for me if you want if something strikes your fancy. Maybe cowboy hats and not much else?

Now if I can just sell the damn bed and nightstands...

I might get out of here on Thursday like I've planned.

Not looking forward to the bus ride, though. The one coming up here was an unqualified disaster.

I AM looking forward to seeing people I haven't seen in a while. Get back on familiar ground and get my bearings, and move forward.
===

I'm pretty much packed and the apartment just needs to be vacuumed. Then Wednesday, the property manager comes in and takes a look and tells me if I get my deposit back. I think I will. The damn place is cleaner than I found it.

Then all I'll have to do before I leave is send the boxes to Mom's house, return the car to Dale and get my ass out of here.

Don't know if I can swing by Enid first, though, Vincent. I don't think the bus even goes that way before hitting OKC. I have a better chance of hitting Shawnee first. My second layover is in Amarillo for cryin' out loud. This time, it better be the hour that's posted on the schedule and not the 12 hours I spent there in June.
===

I might not get another opportunity to post anything until I get back to Oklahoma. Jeff has upgraded my old hunk of junk so that I at least have a USB port and a few other goodies. More space on my hard drive isn't one of them. I'll just have to save for an external hard drive.

But I'd rather have a laptop, and save the ancient desktop for writing. I've got some great ideas swirling around in my head!

thanks for peeking. see you soon.

Back from the deep recesses of that very hot place

Stef's Horrorscope for 9/22:

Stephanie's Daily Aquarius Forecast

Quickie: Put thought into how to maintain good energy in your life -- and get rid of the bad.

Overview: You know that saying about spending money to make money? Expenses will increase, but you'll soon find an opportunity to bring in more cash, too. Remain open to all potential outlets, even the most unexpected.

Daily extended (by Astrology.com)
Is conservation on your mind? It should be. Not necessarily the 'saving Earth' type, either. You need to step back and put thought into how you're going to maintain the good energy of your life -- and get rid of the bad energy. Take stock and do a mental inventory of the people who leave you feeling energized, and the people who leave you feeling drained. You can choose to spend time with only positive influences.
===

Well, I've taken the second step (the first one was taken for me). Soon, I'll be able to surround myself with at least one positive person...

I have a new goal in life...

I want to write a banned book.

I know I have that book in me somewhere. I just have to know where and how to look.

I can see it now: My Book (whatever it ends up being called)-- Banned in Boston; doesn't play in Peoria; thrown on the fire in some out of the way Bible Belt town.

First things first, though. I have to move and get settled in OKC. Get a job. And, get on with it.

So there.

I left him???

Last I checked, I was not dating a 21 year old. If I were 21 again, I might. No way that (my being 21 again) is going to happen.

Vincent made this comment last week about how I left Oklahoma for my now former job in Wyoming: "You didn't leave me for another man, or even another woman...you left me for a radio station! In Wyoming!"

Um, sorry Vincent. I'm coming back... am I forgiven?

Besides, isn't getting a radio job the whole point of going to broadcasting school????

Silly Vincent...

"Yes it is"

And good morning to you, too!

I left a message for a friend who was going to get me the phone number of someone he knows who might be able to fix my Beretta, and this morning, his subsequent text message woke me up.

The long and short of the converstation was this: he's going to email a family member who might have the phone number; and when I commented on today being his "late day" at his job, he replied with the title of this post.

Ahh, Thursdays...
===

More things to cross off the moving list: placed an ad with the local paper to sell the bed and nightstands; bought Aleve for the never ending headache I got last night (and nearly got up to go get it then, but thought better of waking up the poor guy who drives the cab I usually use); and put in my change of address at the post office. Starting on the 29th, my mail will be forwarded to Mom's house.

Later, I'll go over to UPS and inquire about whether they sell boxes and how much will it cost to ship my two boxes to Oklahoma.
===

Tonight is taco and "potato locos" night. That's as close to eating out as I'm going to get before next week. I have quite a few groceries I have to either consume, throw away, give away, or take with me. Why I have two boxes of Hamburger Helper, Velveeta shells and cheese, and 8 packets of ramen noodles, I have no clue. I can't possibly eat them all before next week!

I just have one question...

Why don't my AudioPosts post anymore?

I have my suspicions, but of course, I can't prove a damn thing.

Think it's time to bop on over to the Blogger group and ask some questions.
===

I had some success in finding things I need for my move. Now I might be able to get everything home without much trouble (except for the bed and night stands, of course, as much as I'd like to take them with me).

I think tomorrow, I'll put in my change of address and inform the utilities of my impending departure.

And clean like a demon. Actually that isn't going to be that hard. There's hardly anything to clean.

Why do people think they can call/IM/text me in the middle of the night?

I'm still sleeping at 5am these days...

Saon called the other night around 11:30pm, on the pretext of giving me his new cell phone number. But what he really wanted to talk about is me moving to Louisiana to take a radio job. So he can be with me again.

I didn't tell him this, but there is no f'n way I'm going to put myself through all his shit again. I deserve much better than that. We can still be friends, but he blew whatever chance he had of us being a couple three years ago when he decided to cheat on me while I was visiting him in Gretna.

Maybe surviving the hurricane last year did change him somewhat, but he's still the same person. There is no chance that I can be anything other than his friend. He even said that, if he had the money, he'd come up here and help me move. As much as I would appreciate that, that would be sending the wrong message to him.

Friends... that's it, Saon. And if that hurts your feelings, I'm sorry. You've put me through enough hell, thankyouverymuch.
===

I'm in the process of giving away all the stuff that got sent to me last week. I'd say about 99% of it is stuff I wish they'd gotten rid of before filling six boxes with it. My files and my books, and the few clothes I had packed in a duffle bag is really all I needed. That could have taken up about 2 boxes.

I'm going to pack my clothes and my household stuff (toaster oven, dishes, silverware, etc) in one big box. Everything else either gets sold or given away.
===

I need to take my glasses back and have them adjusted. They are driving me nuts!
===

I've been doing a little bit of blog surfing here at the library. It's so good to read other people's blogs again. I've even found a couple that are quite interesting and enlightening.
===

I can't wait to get back to Oklahoma! But there are things here I have to take care of first.
