So what was the point in calling if they were going to come out anyway?

This morning, I called the phone people to reschedule my phone service installation until July 11, and I was told that they would tell the technician who was scheduled to come out to not bother.

So I get home and there is this hang tag on my door asking me to reschedule. Looks like "Dave" didn't get the message. What was the friggin' point?

I need to go home and take a nap. I've been up since ten til five this morning. The morning guy at one of the stations I work for up and left (i.e. was either fired or quit), and there was some new stuff going on that I'm going to have to get used to.

Still can't sleep well worth a damn. I have to get a real bed, and soon!

But now, I feel like I'm going to keel over.

I've been swamped! ...and homesick

Things have been crazy-busy at work this week!

Yee-haw!

I was supposed to get a couch yesterday from one of my co-workers, but I guess something came up and she wasn't able to come by and drop it off. Having no phone, she couldn't call me and tell me so. That will change on Friday, when my phone is hooked up.

Hopefully, I'll have the couch by then and start paying her for it.

Got a really nice email from JC this week. I see his name in my inbox and I have a big grin on my face. He is one of my favorite people. It's too bad he lives 2500 miles away in Massachusetts.

And someone else, who lives in Oklahoma, affects me the same way.

It's so hard having all of your friends live somewhere else. I haven't seen JC in almost four years. I'd love to see him again, but I think I'd have to go to Massachusetts to do that, because I don't think he'd come here.

And ditto for Someone Else from Oklahoma.

I miss my family, too.

But this job is worth it. No one said it would be easy being away from all the people you care about. I still have my faith.

Lord, I need a TV... or something

I'm getting stir crazy in my apartment. I'm so tired when I get home, all I do is sleep. When I'm awake, all kinds of crazy thoughts go through my head. It's either stay there and be bored, or go out somewhere.

Trouble with that is, I don't have a car. Yet. Everything is 2 minutes away by car. If I have to walk there, it takes much longer.

I got the key to my mailbox yesterday. Not that I expected anything. There was stuff in there when I finally got it opened, but it was all addressed to "Occupant" or "Resident".

I'll even take a bill at this rate. I'm expecting an electric bill soon. I'll even take the phone bill, but the phone service won't even be installed until next Friday.

Mom's sending a bunch of mail that was delivered to her address for me. I have that to look forward to at least.

Just when I think I've got it all down...

I find that I don't.

But that's half the fun of this job. Learning new things, getting experience, and trying to relax.

I think i get all keyed up about things because I'm such a perfectionist. Or I'm an overachiever, or some such thing.

But I'm still having fun. After all, this is my first job in radio. I didn't think I'd come right out of broadcasting school being a fully formed radio personality. I'm still taking baby steps, and the more confidence I have, the more I can do the things I've got spinning around my brain.

When I've got my airshow right where I want it, I'm going to start airchecking myself, because it is a great way to see where you are in the grand scheme of things.

Then I'll send one to Larry and see what he thinks.

But that won't be for a while. Patience, cowboy.

Take a nap, new phone shows up

When I got home from work yesterday, I took a nap. You try getting up at 5am and make thru an entire day without a nap.

Just as I was falling asleep, I thought I heard someone knocking on the front door. Since most times this happens, it's usually nothing, I let it go, thinking it was my tired brain playing tricks on me.

Three hours later, I woke up, and, remembering the knock on the door I thought I heard, I went to check it out. There, taped to my front door, is a note saying that my package was in the apartment across the hall.

I think I scared the poor girl who answered the door across the hall, because she handed me the package, said a quick hi, then closed the door.

It was my new phone.

A little backstory here: when I called Tracfone to change my number, I was told that because of the "technology" where I am now, I needed a new phone that was compatible with the technology. I only had to send the old phone back to them.

After I charged the battery and reactivated my account to add this new phone, I was playing around with some of the new features. I discovered that I can add email addresses to any listing in the phone book (the one in my phone), and send emails. The last phone I had that let me do this, that feature didn't work. However, I decided to try it out, not expecting the feature to work. So I sent an email from my phone to Larry. And it actually got sent!

Of course, I had to write him a real email this morning to explain what this weird email he got was. It was from me, sorry, I was playing with the phone, I didn't think it'd get sent, etc., etc., etc.

Better go now... time for the news.

All moved in... sorta

I have an air mattress, a chair, and a little table.

So I'll have to "camp out" in my own apartment for a few days. At least I have electricity, and next week, I'll have phone service.

It'll get there, slowly but surely.

I've got faith it'll all work itself out.

(if'n you're gonna peek, at least spend some time reading my disjointed posts, k?)

Moving weekend

It will take less than a day. I don't have much of anything to move.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. Tell him you love him and appreciate everything he's done for you.

I wish I could tell mine.

Who the hell is calling me at friggin 4am?!

Last night, I think I finally got a decent night of sleep.

At least until 4am when someone called the phone in my motel room. Of course, no one was on the other end. I get up at 4:45am, so that shot any more sleep all to hell.

Then I had to deal with the Taxicab War I've inadvertantly become embroiled in. I contracted with one to take me to work, but for the last three days, they show up late, or, as it was this morning, not at all. So I went with the other cab company, because at least they show up when they tell you they will.

I need to get a car like yesterday.

I did get the apartment around the corner from the station I hoped I'd get. Now I need stuff to put in it. I have no furniture at all! As it is, my whole paycheck is going towards the rent and security deposit.

The hurrieder I go, the behinder I get.... *sigh*

From the dumb criminals file

This is a real news story I pulled off the AP this morning...

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities in Campbell County say a
couple who ran out of gas about 15 miles west of Gillette were
caught with 330 pounds of marijuana. It's perhaps the biggest marijuana bust in Campbell County history.

Forty-two-year-old Miguel Lopez-Madrigal and 22-year-old Adriana
Luna were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Deputies say that when they arrived the stranded 1997 Chevrolet
Tahoe Sunday night, Lopez-Madrigal said Luna was his sister-in-law
and that they were traveling from Washington to Chicago.

The two agreed to a search of the sport-utility vehicle.
Deputies allegedly found 15 bales of marijuana wrapped in
cellophane in four large duffel bags.

I included it in my newscast this morning. I cracked up the morning guy when i read it. I, on the other hand, managed to keep a straight face. Until the mike was off, then I laughed.

You been peeking? (wink wink)

Thus starts another busy week. The 700 spam messages that greet me every Monday I can do without.

I think I found an apartment. It's right around the corner from the radio station. That's great for me, because I have to be here at 5:30am anyway. Might as well be close enough to walk.

There's so much more that I want to write, but I'm at work. Need to get my old hunk of junk up here, or buy a new computer as soon as I get a few other things... like stuff for my apartment and A CAR!!! This is a small town, but you still need a car to get anywhere!

I did my first air shift this morning. It didn't go too badly. Just have to get used to the software that is used here. It's different than what I was trained on. But I can grasp things pretty quickly. I'll have it down in no time.

I should send Del and Larry thank you notes. I'm having a blast!

Oops... gotta go! More on Monday...

I don't need insomnia now!

I do 2 news casts at work at 6:30am and 7:30am, so I have to be there pretty early.

So having insomnia is not an option I wish to consider, thank you.

Last night, there were fireworks. Daniel called about selling my car. Trouble was, I was asleep at the time.

I think I got plenty of sleep last night. But I am so dragged out right now.

I need coffee.

First (Written) Wyoming Post

I'm here!

If you've listened to the audio posts, it wasn't a fun trip. But the people here at the radio station are really nice, and I'm working!

The motel that the station is paying for is nice and clean, the people who run it are super.

Now, I need a real place to live, another car, and stuff like that.

I'm never going to get used to being an hour behind OKC and two hours behind Boston, though.

Audio Post: the bus trip from hell

this is an audio post - click to play

Friday, June 02, 2006

The Last (Written) Oklahoma Post

The last one from OKC as a resident. Next time, I'll be a visitor.

As of right now, I have no idea when I'll be back online with written posts. Hopefully, next week or soon after. However, I am going to do audio posts. Fair warning though, they won't have titles until I can get to a computer and give them titles (and Technorati tags). It may look strange, all these audio posts with no titles. Can't be helped.

So fire up your speakers and listen in on all the goings on in my life... my new life in Wyoming. But my heart will be in Oklahoma... or some part of me will be here in some form or fashion.

Funny though... when I moved here 3 1/2 years ago, I couldn't wait to get out of here. Now, I don't want to leave.

You know, I kept it together when I dropped by the school yesterday. I didn't want to be a big blubbery mess in front of Larry and Del and everyone. Now I feel like I'm going to lose it. So I'm going to close here.

Until we meet again...keep peeking!

Don't you forget about me...

But,

I guess you have to say "goodbye", so you can say "hello" again.

Makes sense to me.
