I have no idea what to call this post

The "things I have to do before New Year's"?
"Things I have to do after New Year's"?

Suffice it to say that I still have a lot to do to make living in my apartment, paying my bills, and driving my car a lot easier.

I just shelled out a bunch of cash to get my car insured so I can get the title and tags for it. Actually getting the tags will have to wait until Tuesday now, because the tag agency is just a little too far to walk to.

But at least I don't have to worry about car insurance for six months.
===

I don't have any real plans for New Year's Eve. Maybe I'll go over to Mom's and see her new chair that was a family Christmas gift to her.

I don't know. New Year's Eve partying has kinda lost its cache for me. I don't drink, so that would make me a party pooper in some people's eyes. I'd just like to spend it with a few friends. There is someone I'd like to spend it with, but the chances of that happening are remote at best.
===

I think I'll go home and have some hot chocolate. The weather is kinda drizzly.

Have a Happy New Year! Bring on 2007!

"Mom, we're going to Olive Garden..."

So said my eldest son when he magically appeared on my doorstep last night.

It's where Daniel wanted to go for his birthday dinner. So what else is new.

Thing is, Daniel's birthday was two weeks ago! With all the hustle and bustle leading up to Christmas, there just wasn't time to squeeze in another trip to Olive Garden.

Marc wanted his birthday dinner there, too, and we did go... just not on his birthday (Dec 5).

We got to Olive Garden and everyone else was still waiting to be seated. Mom didn't go because she wasn't feeling well, and Dean ended up taking Joey over to Mom's because he was pitching a fit.

All in all it was a nice dinner. Since my birthday is next, Tori asked me not to choose Olive Garden.

No problem. I have 43 days to decide where I want to go.
===

After Monday, you can take all the holiday stuff and put it away for another year. I've had about enough.

Thanks for peeking! :)

Live from the library...

I hope everyone had a great holiday. Sorry for the lack of posts, but my home computer is, for all intents and purposes, toast. It could possibly be fixed to the point of retrieving the stuff I have on it that I want to keep. Maybe I need Computer Nerdz!
===

I have gotten mostly moved into my apartment. I have a lovely view of I-40 from my front door. The traffic noise doesn't bother me though. Actually, at times it lulls me to sleep. And I'm amazed about how much is close by... like the library for example. Takes me 15 minutes to get here on foot. Couldn't do that in Edmond (believe me, I tried it!).
===

I've had an epiphany of sorts since I've been back in Oklahoma... I've decided that I'm no longer going to color my hair. My hair was the one thing I was vain about. So if I go completely grey by 45, then so be it. I can't really afford to be vain about anything. Take life as it comes, warts and all.
===

Now that I have access to the internet again, maybe other things will improve. Who knows?

Take life as it comes, warts and all.

Yep, my computer is still toast...

in other news...

I'm getting moved into my apartment this week. Hopefully, since Daniel has Wednesday off, I can enlist his help in getting my stuff from Mom's house to my apartment.

It means not having access to a car for a while :( until I can get the Beretta tagged and titled, but if the weather holds up, I can walk to where I need to be. It's amazing that so much is close by... including Rose State.
===

I "met" this huge Saint Bernard named Dante this afternoon. He and his Doberman buddies made a break for it from their yard. Dante was limping and couldn't keep up with the faster dogs, so I was able to get him to come to me. He was all paws and was as friendly as could be. Fortunately, he was wearing a collar with a tag with his contact info on it, so I called his owner and she came and got him.
===

I think I am going to get used to having I-40 practically at my front door. The traffic actually lulled me to sleep while I was at the apartment this afternoon.
===

Thanks for peeking... talk soon?

My computer at home is toast... for real this time :(

I can turn it on, and that's about it. Sorry for the disappearing act for the last 4 days.

In other news, I signed a lease for an apartment yesterday. Now all I need is a couch and a bed.

Oh, and a real job, of course.
===

I'm at UCO's library trying to catch up on 4 days worth of email, and other stuff that I really need my computer for. This is not a good time NOT to have a working computer at home.

Well, there is Jeff's laptop, but he won't let anyone use it unless they give him something in return.

I take him to work everyday since it's been cold out at 7am, but that isn't good enough. Wonder how he's going to get there after I move into my apartment next week.

Guess I better save my pennies for a new computer.
===

Man, this sucks...

Please give to the Thirsty Van Fund?

"I can't," Jeff said as I drove him to work this morning. "I'm already contributing to the Injured Cobalt Fund."

(What I didn't say is, "and the Cobalt is injured because...?")

I told Jeff that because Daniel's car is in the shop, I have to take both of them to work and bring them home, and that takes more gas than usual. Jeff just shrugged.

"Certainly you're not going to make me and your grandmother foot the bill for this?"

Jeff: (shrug)

Okay, Jeff is very careful with his money (an admirable trait, considering his father is so irresponsible with his), but he has to contribute more to the smooth operation of the household. That means paying for the gas the van needs to go occasionally. Combustible engines don't run on fumes and a wing and a prayer.

So pony up the $2.17 a gallon, kid.

Here's the story, morning glory...

Current temps: 12 degrees at Will Rogers; 9 in Edmond.

Re: the previous post, this is what happened...

Daniel and Jeff went to Barnes and Noble. It had just started snowing when they left to come home, so the roads were slick.

Daniel drove around a corner, and the wheels turned, but the car slid into a curb, messing up the suspension. Jeff calls at about 11:30pm and I knew, just knew, that there was some kind of mishap.

Thing is, I asked them not to go because they'd been saying on the news all day that the roads were going to be icy after dark.

Jeff tried to call Dean, but the line was busy (c'mon, the guy's a doctor, he's bound to be getting calls late at night). I called Dean and told him what happened, and he ended going all the way out there to fetch them.

And apparently, Dean tore them both new ones, because they weren't in a great mood when they got home.

Daniel spent most of yesterday morning on the phone with his insurance company, arranging to get the car fixed. I had to take him all the way out to where he had left the car to give the spare key to the wrecker driver, then take him to work.

It doesn't snow like this in Oklahoma City as a rule. So people don't know how to drive in snow. There were some people who were driving fast (and not all were in 4 wheel drive vehicles). What really got me is that the mall was open, McDonald's was open, and people actually braved the elements so they could get their shopping done.

Jeff's work was closed yesterday, but it was his day off, so it wasn't like he got a snow day. Which kinda ticked him off...
===

Lots of places are closed today, too. The storm that brought this stuff is up near Chicago now. But damn, it's cold!

Another 4 day weekend... how lucky can one guy be :)
