Grrrr...

This just kills me...

When I was looking for full time work, there were no jobs to be had. Now that I'm in school and really need only a part time job, everybody's got full time work.

Now that I need to get at least a water pump for the car, I need something asap. I have qualified for the Federal Work Study program, but, if I indeed get a FWS job, it won't start til August.

And I'm too old to work in fast food. It's fine for kids like Jeff. Johnnie's Express has allowed Jeff to save money for a car, but you can't live on that. Or at least, I can't.

But if that's what it takes... *sigh*

I got a call just before I sat down to do this post. It was for a full time job, but I can't take it because I'm in school full time. The guy on the other end sounded like I wasted his time.

I'm not going to give up on school. There has to be a way to make it all play nicely together.

There HAS to be.

Now, I have to go hunt up something to get rid of this headache.

I'm going to take a nice long snooze... right after finals are over

I told someone today that I'm going to take a nap right after finals. I haven't been getting the sleep I need the last couple of weeks, and it's starting to take a toll on me. No more of this staying up til 2am, trying to cram a whole semester's knowledge into my brain. I know the material, so for my first final on Thursday, I'll study in the afternoon tomorrow, like I did today and yesterday, and take it from there.

I'm going up to Mom's tomorrow after school, because another place has called me for an interview, and it's closer to her house than it is mine. The job, as I understand it, is near me though.

So I have a double whammy here... do well on the interview Wednesday and the final on Thursday.

Warning: Rant Ahead--

The whiny kid from one of my broadcasting classes has a class on Tuesday and Thursdays in the same place where I was editing my final project, and again, he was complaining about juggling work with school (and I guess he's not doing a good job at it, because school is apparently suffering). I didn't hear all of his arguments (mostly because I've tuned him out, and because I don't think he has a valid argument), so I don't know what all he said. Nor do I care. He hasn't learned to set priorities-- if he's going to go to school, then he should strive to do well. Blaming his work schedule, or the instructor, or whatever his lame argument is, isn't going to win him any brownie points. The person he should be blaming is the one he looks at in the mirror every morning.

The way I see it is this-- if you're not going to do your best work, for whatever reason, be it work, the instructor, your classmates, or your own failings, I don't want to hear your excuses for why you didn't complete the work. You either do the work or you don't. I may have not had the best editing projects in class, but at least I did them, and got them done on time. This guy was still editing the very first project we had in that class last week. That first project, if memory serves, was due in February! It's May, dude... it's too late for all that. I don't care what kind of fancy ass equipment you've bought to help you, the project is still late. Period. End of Story.

And this ends my rant about that!

Daniel and the amazing earwax cure, and fine tuning my resume

Guess someone got to do all those things they wanted to accomplish this week.
===

Daniel shows up at my apartment on Wednesday afternoon. He was in the area because he'd just been to Dean's office in Midwest City.

Daniel woke up that morning not being able to hear out of his left ear. He didn't want to call anyone at first because he thought he could take care of it. Finally, his grandmother prevailed on him to call Tori, which he did, and explained his problem. Tori said she'd call Dean to see what he suggested Daniel do. Tori called back later and told Daniel to go to Dean's office, as an appointment had been made for him to clear out his ear.

Turns out that Daniel had a huge ball of wax blocking off his ear canal. Dean tried to remove it, but it was not going anywhere. While Dean tried to get at the wax, he noticed that Daniel's ear was slighly infected.

The remedy for this problem was to use ear drops, take ibuprofin, and put a couple of drops of Dawn dish washing soap in his ear and let it sit for a minute, then rinse it out with warm water. In about 5 days all of that nastiness should drain out.

Dawn dishwashing soap? For earwax build up? Um, okay... whatever.

Later, Daniel brought me to Mom's house, but we had to go to Home Depot first because Daniel agreed to fix a hole in the wall in the upstairs room that used to be my bedroom. I stayed in the car, and my phone rang.

Some guy asked for "Dan" (which is what all of Daniel's friends call him), and I told him that Dan wasn't available. The guy wanted Daniel call him back, saying that he lived next door. I thought nothing of it, because I don't know any of Mom's neighbors (people move in and out of her neighborhood all the time), but Daniel probably did.

Then I thought, why is Daniel giving out my cell number to people? I thought he didn't know that number.

When Daniel came back to the car, I told him about the call, and Daniel looked a little puzzled. I asked why he was giving out my cell number to people. He said he didn't, because he didn't know it.

He called the guy back, and it turns out that the Dan they were looking for was not my son. Someone named Dan had my cell number before I did.

Daniel took me to Mom's and he went to God only knows where.

Yesterday, I went to the mandatory job search seminar at Francis Tuttle's Rockwell campus. I had to attend in order to continue to receive unemployment. It was scheduled to be 7 hours long, but the gal who led the seminar was so good, and so thorough with the information, that we got out about 45 minutes early.

I'm glad I went. I learned a lot. And, I learned that my resume needed to be updated, because of my age mostly. So I'll be working on a new resume, and maybe then I'll finally get a job.

I hate being on unemployment. I don't know how Jon did it for years on end the way he's wont to do. I'd rather work, thanks.

Anyone in the OKC Metro looking for someone who can talk a blue streak, relate to the public, and will show up to work on time everyday? Because of school, it'll have to be part time for now. But even part time I'll be making more than I get in a month of unemployment.

A whole week with (almost) nothing to do

Yeah, right! Even though there's no school next week, I still have stuff to do. For example...

*Watch a movie for my English Comp class and write a report (it's extra credit, but a little padding on the grade always helps).

*Keep up the search for meaningful gainful employment.

*Attend a job search workshop on Thursday the 22nd.

So I won't be loafing during spring break. Not by a long shot!

No partying for me (not that I party that much. Hell, I don't even drink!).

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but...

I know all the words to the BC Clark Christmas jingle. It is, amazingly enough, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

It only took me four Christmases to get the words to this annoying (and by Christmas, it will be) little ditty down pat.

It almost makes coming back from Wyoming worth it.

We're supposed to get some of the white stuff on Thursday. The forecast calls for a high of (get this!) 27, and a low of (I shit you not) 26. Wind chill, batteries, taxes, tag and title not included.

I do miss the winters in New England, though. Someday, I'll get back there.
===

Interview went well, BTW. Now the waiting begins. There must have been a dozen people there at the same time I was.

And, a one bedroom apartment came available this morning at the last place Tori took me to about three weeks ago. So I went over there and took a look. It's a small one bedroom, but, hell, it's just me going to live there, I don't need much room. I paid an application fee and filled out paperwork. I'll know something about that tomorrow. If I pass muster, then things will move very quickly.
===

The busybody will be here in the morning. Oh. Joy.
